Third Space

Third Space is a discussion group in Bournemouth that empowers individuals and will leave you buzzing with ideas. Here's how it works:You share your views, but the trade is that you listen to mine in return. This creates a formal, live, and disciplined conversation about the world around us—a dialogue that goes beyond the noise of everyday life.If you have strong opinions or feel unheard, this could be for you.

One of the illusions of social media is the belief that conversations are free. But meaningful conversations—those that require time, thought, and discipline—come with effort and commitment. We asked ourselves:How can we develop and refine our ideas about the world? How can we influence change? The existing answers felt inadequate. So, we created a way to facilitate powerful conversations—conversations that challenge preconceptions, change minds or even lead to action.

We gather in a lovely little café (in Boscombe, Bournemouth) reserved exclusively for our group, providing a quiet and comfortable setting. There are costs involved: venue, food and drink, and the time our members dedicate to organising. We charge £10 per person for each meeting. This covers the cost of the venue, coffee and a pastry, with a portion of the fee allocated toward a cause chosen by the group. This creates a sense of shared purpose and ownership. The fee also acts as a filter. If you don’t see value in paying £10 for breakfast and a conversation, Third Space might not be for you. That’s the rule of the trade—and it keeps our group intentional and committed.Beyond this, we have no formal rules. We rely on mutual respect and shared purpose to guide our discussions.
